iPhone 4S + HDMI + iCloud = Mac Mini replacement?

The new iPhone 4S was announced yesterday, okay it wasn’t named the iPhone 5 which we were all hoping for but it comes with a huge boost in processor and graphics capability over the previous iPhone 4. The CPU is 2x as fast and the graphics 7x so it’s a major step forward and the possibilities which that processing power can now offer were demonstrated with the new voice recognition of Siri and the ability to leverage the motion sensors to steady video recordings. Another important added feature is video mirroring to an HDMI display, couple this with the iCloud for extended storage, upgraded bluetooth for a keyboard and mouse, and the iPhone 4S (or certainly the iPhone 5) could become a competent replacement for the desktop computer. The final piece of the jigsaw being iOS5 which removes the need to dock with iTunes on a PC. It’s now easy to envisage office workers using the new iPhone (with monitor and keyboard attached) to do all the normal desktop tasks. At the end of the day simply unplug the peripherals and slip the iPhone into your pocket. It’s then your in car entertainment and Sat Nav and at home your HD TV becomes the monitor for showing photos and video. No expensive computer equipment is left languishing in the darkened...
